Fridays should be called Yawndays
We had dinner at our friend’s Arik and Annie’s. They made us fabulous dinner, including a killer key lime pie. mmm. Speaking of Key lime pie, if you are ever in Red Hook, go get a mini dark chocolate dipped one on a stick from Steve’s. doublemmm. I heart brooklyn.
Sometimes work is slow and even Friday 5 gets done.
1. What item would you be embarrassed for people to know you own?
A gift from my mother: Lee’sSummitOpoly (yes, that would be Monopoly in the namesake of my hometown. Who in for an exciiiiting Friday night?!
2. What is something you splurged on just for you?
My new purse. I don’t think EJ will use it, so it’s just for me.
3. What is something that you own with no real world value that is priceless to you?
Old cards get me a little meepy, pictures, naturally.
4. Do you collect anything?
Hmm, I used to collect nerdy stuff, now I collect…books? Those don’t count. Shoes? Nope. I don’t think there is enough room in the house to really collect stuff.
5. What item belonging to a friend/family member do you covet?
Coveting is a deadly sin, right?
The weekend and a little of today (and why can’t I paste things uniformally?)
The weekend:
-Vox Trot at the Siren festival – again, wonderful people watching and sticking to the lesser know band is always a plus (they were against MIA on the other stage)
-Dylan had a flea! (cue Frontline commercial with singing pups, “there may be bugs…”)
-Risotto success
-Ej likes Flight of the Conchords
-We will soon attempt to swim at the Y
-Lukali’s pizza is still wonderfully fabulous. Mmm.
-It’s raining today, I slipped. People are nice, though at ask you if you are okay and one apologized, apparently for the sidewalk being wet and me wearing the wrong shoes. Nice of her, though

- What’s overdue for a good cleaning?
-Actually, I do pretty well. Although I have a pile of clothes that need ironing. Dylan could use a good cleaning.
- What’s overdue for some kind of professional examination, service, maintenance, or upkeep?
-The fridge, my bike, computer files, our furniture arrangements.
- Who’s overdue for a phone call or letter to you?
-I just wish I could stop playing phone tag with people – I owe lots of people calls.
- What’s overdue for an appearance in your neighborhood?
-The Atlantic Antic. Can’t wait for that. Celebrities, perhaps? Although I saw Jennifer Connolly last week. My life could be complete.
Who’s overdue for a good comeuppance?
-Hmm. George Bush? Or Dylan.
Steam pipes
So, in my quest to figure out how I can live abroad easily, I thought “how about Fulbright?” I have since said, no, thanks, but I still went to the information session near the UN last night. Oops. In attempting to find transportation home, the bus passed all the millions of emergency vehicles on 42nd street with the avid camera-phoners looking on and then past the giant wall of steam. Craziness.
In the theme of debris, the ceilings of the two apartments’ dining rooms below us have kind of fallen in, one day after the other. Hmm. Are we next? Should I ceiling babysit tomorrow? EJ has responsible removed the glass from the dining room table temporarily.

the link EJ found to this article was “apparently, there is good food outside of New York…”
Boo!
(I took the link out, but the article featured Bluestem. Anyone want to go when I come to KC? They have pountine!!! mmmm)
Filed under Food | Comment (0)So for some reason this morning, there is an intermittent very high pitched noise – like your ears are ringing, but from far away and everyone can hear it. And it starts and stops randomly. I think my brain may explode.
Last night, I was the lone cheerleader for softball, and it turned out EJ’s team won and lost…they played themselves. Playing a team sport would be lots of fun, but I didn’t want to spend $100 on sand soccer…although maybe I should have. Maybe I’ll just go down to the barge pool beach on open team night.
Sorry about the various fonts; I haven’t figured out how to paste properly.

Wow-the Friday Five!
What’s a gross food you like anyway?
-Undressed salad
Who’s an unlikeable person you like anyway?
-Ha! Ask EJ for the list. Most times I don’t realize they are unlikable.
What’s an unpleasant task you enjoy performing anyway?
-Scrubbing tile
What’s a dumb song you enjoy anyway?
-That Justin Timberlake one?
What’s a lousy restaurant you frequent anyway?
-Most all Chinese delivery in our neighborhood
Today’s been a very long day, after two, well one late night and one sort of late night. Last night was some funny and fantastic music show action. What? Is it time to go home yet?

Essential things I feel I need to learn:
-a foreign language
-how to express anger well
-how to make decisions quickly and decisively (is that an oxy-moron?)
-find a medium between over-planning and not planning at all
-communicate in speech and in writing succintly and clearly and with passion
Things I have learned the past few years:
-music can be very cathartic
-how to be a social worker
-how to cook more than pad thai and pasta
-that there’s a lot to learn but that’s okay
-how to deal with difficult people (on paper at least)
The second Friday of the week…
…is going very slooooowly. I forget what it is like to be at a computer all day (for those who knew, last school year I did not have a computer at my desk). The cubicle depression is slowly passing, which is good. I have gotten into the habit of jogging during lunch in the nearby park, which is very admirable of me, if I may say so myself. I’ve actually gone 2 times this week and 3 times last week. I’m so unmotivated to do anything, it is even hard to blog, so sad.
